Dispute Resolution Lawyer | NQ–4 PQE | Sports & Media
Manchester | Hybrid Working
Competitive Salary & Benefits
A rare opportunity to build your career in sports and media law
Haggerty Jaques is working with a highly regarded specialist law firm to recruit a Dispute Resolution Lawyer into its Manchester team.
This is a genuinely unusual opportunity for an ambitious disputes lawyer who wants to develop a career within the sports and media sector, working alongside recognised specialists and advising on some fascinating, high-profile and often complex matters.
Our client acts for an impressive national and international client base including sporting organisations, governing bodies, clubs, athletes, players, agents, rights holders, brands and high-profile individuals.
The Role
Joining an established team of specialist contentious and regulatory lawyers, you will gain exposure to a broad range of disputes across sport and media.
The work will include:
- Sporting disputes and arbitrations before a variety of domestic and international dispute resolution forums
- Regulatory and disciplinary investigations
- Football-related disputes, including matters involving clubs, players, agents and governing bodies
- Integrity and misconduct matters, including anti-doping cases
- High Court and wider commercial litigation
- Media and social media disputes
- Supporting the continued development and growth of the firm’s disputes practice
This is very much a hands-on role, offering significant exposure to clients and matters which would be difficult to replicate within a more general disputes practice.
What Are We Looking For?
We are ideally looking for a solicitor from NQ to around 4 years’ PQE, although there may be flexibility for an exceptional candidate outside of this range.
You will need to have trained and/or qualified within a well-regarded disputes practice and have a strong academic and professional background.
Previous sports or media law experience would certainly be attractive, but it is not essential. Of equal interest could be a strong commercial disputes lawyer who can demonstrate a clear and genuine interest in sport and/or media and a compelling reason for wanting to build their career in this area.
You should also be commercially minded, confident dealing with demanding and high-profile clients and comfortable working as part of a collaborative, entrepreneurial team.
Given the nature of the sector, some flexibility around working hours will occasionally be required.
Why Consider It?
Opportunities to move into a genuinely specialist sports and media practice are incredibly rare, particularly at junior level.
For somebody serious about developing a career in this area, the role offers:
- Exposure to some of the highest-profile clients and matters in world sport
- The opportunity to learn from recognised specialists in the field
- A broad mix of litigation, arbitration, regulatory and disciplinary work
- Excellent long-term career development
- A friendly, sociable and supportive working environment
- Competitive salary and benefits
- Flexible/hybrid working
The role is based in Manchester and candidates must be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship requirements.
