LEGAL & GOVERNANCE PARALEGAL

ENGLAND GOLF

WOODHALL SPA, LINCOLNSHIRE (WITH HYBRID WORKING)

Comprehensive Salary & Benefits Package

Haggerty Jaques is delighted to be exclusively retained by England Golf to recruit a Legal & Governance Officer (Paralegal) to join its in-house legal team.

England Golf is one of the largest sports governing bodies in the country, looking after the interests of all amateur golf in England – including the clubs themselves as well as almost 800,000 players. It is also the organiser of all of the major English amateur golf championships.

Based at England Golf’s headquarters at Woodhall Space in Lincolnshire and surrounded by The National Golf Centre’s two golf courses – the Hotchkin and the Bracken – there are few more picturesque places to work (or play).

The Opportunity

We are looking to recruit a Legal & Governance Officer (Paralegal) to provide proactive, high quality paralegal support to the Legal and Governance team on legal, governance, safeguarding, and disciplinary matters.

You will help to ensure that England Golf’s legal position is protected, upholding first-class governance standards and reducing organisational risk through diligent research, drafting and stakeholder engagement.

As a paralegal within this busy team, your legal work will be varied, covering employment, commercial contracts, property, data protection, intellectual property and litigation matters.

The Ideal Candidate

The team is looking for an individual with current or previous experience (a minimum of around 12 months) of working as a paralegal or similar legal support role, whether in private practice or within an in-house legal team.

You must have one of the following qualifications to be eligible for this role: a Law degree; GDL;  CILEX Level 6 Diploma; or SQE 1 pass (or equivalent). It would be a bonus if you were to be working towards your LPC, SQE 2 or CILEX Chartered Legal Executive status.

The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge of the principles of English law and the ability to apply them pragmatically. Good appreciation of data protection legislation is important and strong research, analytical and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail are essential.

Practical exposure to employment, commercial contracts or safeguarding cases would be a real advantage but is not essential.

You must have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. The team operates a hybrid working arrangement of three days in the office and two days off-site.

Why Join?

In addition to being exposed to a wide range of interesting legal matters, you will be joining a friendly and collaborative team.

Named as one of the UK’s best employers in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2024, England Golf has a strong emphasis on team culture and staff wellbeing.

Whilst the team works hard during office hours, there is an expectation that its lawyers will leave on time and enjoy a genuine work-life balance – which may or may not involve a round of golf.

There is a range of fantastic benefits on offer, including generous pension contributions, enhanced family policies, group monthly golf lessons, and discounted golf club membership.

Where appropriate, there is the potential for the successfully appointed candidate to be supported through a training contract in order to qualify as a solicitor.

For more information and a confidential discussion about this role, please contact Haggerty Jaques - Katie Haggerty and Amy Jaques – on 07740 662995 or 07974 131939.

Any references to PQE/experience are provided purely as a guide and should not deter candidates with more or fewer years’ experience from applying. We welcome applications from individuals who can demonstrate the requisite skills and expertise for this role.

Haggerty Jaques is exclusively retained by England Golf and therefore any direct or third-party agency applications or enquiries will be forwarded to Haggerty Jaques for consideration.
