Legally-Trained Account Executive (M&A Transactions)

North Leeds (with hybrid working)

Full-Time or Part-Time

Competitive Salary Package

Haggerty Jaques is keen to speak to lawyers who are looking to take their career in a different direction.

Instructed by our market-leading corporate client, we are specifically looking for lawyers to join the team in a role that makes use of key legal skills and experience but in a completely different capacity and within a new and refreshing cultural environment.

The opportunity

Working alongside the head of this newly-formed M&A team, you will be reviewing transactional documents and assessing risks within M&A transactions on behalf of your clients.

More specifically, the role will involve you:

  • compiling reports and submissions based on your research and due diligence
  • reviewing matters relating to W&I insurance
  • negotiating terms
  • advising your client on the selection of a suitable product

Whilst you won’t be working as a solicitor in this role, your legal background will equip you with the skills to understand the transaction your client is entering into and to assess the risks involved.

There will be a significant amount of contact with insurers and lawyers on the other side.

You will be joining at a pivotal time; there are exciting plans to grow the team and you will be involved in the expansion as well as in managing other team members in the future.

There are excellent prospects for the successful candidate, including the opportunity to obtain additional qualifications.

There will still be some similarities with the legal world:

  • you will be working with and advising a sophisticated client base with which there are long-standing, high value relationships;
  • the focus of your role will be to consider, manage and mitigate risk on behalf of your clients;
  • you will build great client relationships from an early stage and will become a trusted advisor; and
  • you will be working within a specialist team of professionals which strives for commercial success.

What makes this role different is that:

  • you won’t be recording billable hours;
  • it will be far easier to predict workloads and manage your time;
  • you will be able to enjoy a genuine work/life balance – there is no long-hours culture;
  • you will have autonomy from an early stage; and
  • your career progression will not be determined by a hierarchical structure.

The ideal candidate

This role would suit a lawyer (a qualified solicitor or even a very experienced corporate paralegal) with experience of advising businesses, whether that be from a corporate, commercial, banking, business restructuring, commercial insurance or commercial litigation law background.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate intellectual curiosity and will be looking for a long-term alternative to a career in the legal profession, without losing any of their specialist skills.

The role would also particularly suit someone who wants to continue to be challenged and to develop but within an organisation that values life outside of work.

The employee experience

This is a business in which you can expect the highest standards of professionalism and expertise alongside a genuinely welcoming, friendly and supportive team environment. Our client is looking to recruit an individual who can forge a long and happy career with the company.

Your training will be tailored specifically to you and delivered by team members from day one, until you are confident advising clients independently. There will be fantastic support from the wider team, many of whom made the same transition from the legal world.

Employee wellbeing features very highly here and you will have your own annual allowance to use on a range of wellbeing benefits as well as access to an onsite gym. The team you will be joining is fun, friendly and collegiate.

You can enjoy a great blend of working in the office and from home. There is free parking, EV charging points, and excellent transport links.

Haggerty Jaques is instructed as the sole agency on this role.
